Privacy Policy — Aimuth

This is the privacy policy for Aimuth, an Android game published by YDev ("we", "us").

The short version#

Aimuth does not have accounts, does not show ads, and contains no analytics, tracking or advertising software of any kind. We do not collect, receive, store or share any personal data about you. Everything the game knows about you — your name, your scores, your coins, your settings — is written only to your own phone, and it is deleted when you uninstall the app.

Aimuth needs your location and your phone's compass to work. Both are read on the device, used to work out the answer to the turn you are playing, and never sent anywhere.

1. Information we collect#

None. We operate no servers, no database and no user accounts, and the app contains no code that sends your information to us or to anyone else.

Specifically, we do not collect:

• your name, email address, phone number or any other contact detail;
• your location or any data derived from it;
• your scores, statistics, coin balance or purchases;
• device identifiers, advertising IDs or any other persistent identifier;
• usage, behavioural, marketing or profiling data;
• photos, contacts, files, messages or your microphone.

2. What the app uses on your device#

The following is processed only on your phone. It never leaves the device, and we never see it.

Location#

Aimuth is a compass game: each turn asks which direction a real place is from where you are standing, so your position is the origin every answer is measured from.

• The app asks Android for your location once at the start of each match, and reuses that single reading for every turn of that match.
• The reading is held in the app's memory for the length of the match and is discarded when the match ends. It is not written to storage and not transmitted.
• It is used for exactly two things: computing the great-circle bearing from you to the target, and excluding targets that are closer to you than 50 km.
• You can refuse or withdraw the permission at any time in Android Settings → Apps → Aimuth → Permissions. The game cannot score a match without it, but no other part of the app depends on it.

Compass and motion sensors#

While you aim, the app reads the phone's magnetometer, accelerometer and device-motion sensors many times a second to work out which way the top edge of the phone is pointing. These readings are used to draw the dial and to score the turn. They are not recorded, not stored and not transmitted.

Data saved on your phone#

Aimuth saves the following to its own private storage area on your device, so the game remembers you between sessions:

This information is stored in the app's private sandbox, which other apps on the phone cannot read. You control it entirely: uninstalling Aimuth, or using Android Settings → Apps → Aimuth → Storage → Clear data, deletes all of it permanently. There is nothing for you to request from us, because we never had a copy.

3. Network connections the app makes#

Gameplay is entirely offline — the target packs are bundled inside the app and all scoring happens on the device. The app makes one kind of network request, and it is not about you:

App updates. Aimuth uses EAS Update, a service operated by Expo (650 Industries, Inc.), to deliver bug fixes between store releases. When the app starts, it may contact Expo's servers to ask whether a newer version is available. As with any request to any web server, Expo's servers see standard technical request information such as your IP address, your device platform and operating system version, and the app version installed. No game content, no location, no profile and no statistics are ever included. Expo's privacy policy is at expo.dev/privacy.

You can prevent this entirely by denying the app network access in your device or firewall settings; the game continues to work offline.

Google Play. The app is distributed through Google Play, and Google collects its own data in connection with the store, app installation, and any crash or performance reporting you have enabled at the operating-system level. That processing is Google's, governed by the Google Privacy Policy, and we receive from it only anonymous, aggregated statistics that Google Play Console shows to every developer (such as install counts and, where a user chose to share it, anonymised crash stack traces).

4. Advertising, analytics and payments#

• No advertising. The app contains no ad network and no advertising identifier is read.
• No analytics. There is no Firebase, Google Analytics, AppsFlyer, Sentry, Adjust, Facebook SDK or comparable component in the app.
• No purchases. The coins in Aimuth are an in-game score. They can only be earned by playing, cannot be bought, have no monetary value, and no payment or billing information is ever collected or processed.

5. Children#

Aimuth is a general-audience geography game. It is not directed specifically at children under 13, and it collects no personal data from anyone, of any age. Because nothing is collected, transmitted or shared, there is no data about a child for a parent to review or have deleted, and no advertising or profiling of any kind takes place.

6. Sharing and disclosure#

We have no data about you, so there is nothing for us to sell, rent, share or disclose — to advertisers, data brokers, affiliates or anyone else. No transfer of user data would occur in a business sale, because none exists.

7. Your rights#

Data-protection laws such as the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act give you rights to access, correct, delete, port and restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to it. We support these rights by not processing any personal data in the first place: we hold no record identifying you, so there is nothing to disclose, correct or erase on our side, and the data held on your phone can be deleted by you at any moment by clearing the app's data or uninstalling it.

8. Security#

Because no personal data is transmitted or held by us, there is no server-side store that can be breached. Data saved on your device is protected by Android's application sandbox and by whatever screen lock and device encryption you have configured.

9. This website#

The site at aimuth.app is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics, runs no advertising and no third-party trackers, and asks you for nothing. Standard technical request information such as your IP address is processed by our hosting provider for the sole purpose of delivering the pages and protecting against abuse.

10. Changes to this policy#

If this policy changes, the revised version will be published at this address with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes affecting how the app handles information will also be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the revised policy.
